Spatial Theory
Rupali Gupte
This Course introduces students to frameworks of design thinking. It is expected to orient students to an understanding of space historically and phenomenologically. It introduces various concepts and tools to understand space. It further trains them to analyse and critique architectural, artistic and spatial works and practices through an understanding of their form and contexts.
The course involves lectures, discussions as well as gallery walks and field visits as well as a practice of writing short though pieces analysing works of art and architecture through the frameworks discussed in the course.
The students are expected to put together a 1000 word thought piece analysing one work of art or architecture discussing the context of the work, the primary arguments being made and how the form and materiality of the work addresses the larger arguments of spa ce making and its philosophical / political coordinates.
