History of Building Technology

Dushyant Asher

The course discussed technological innovations throughout the linear progression of human evolution across different material ages. Students investigated the relationship between technology and societal developments, analyzing their impact on space and spatial configurations. A diverse range of architectural examples were discussed—from Indian temples and tombs to mud settlements in Iran and Africa, as well as Renaissance-era buildings in Europe. Through these case studies, students identified technological shifts and explored how these changes were connected to broader historical events and movements aimed at the pursuit of progress as perceived by humans.
